Brentwood – 2018 Nicaragua Service Tour

$8,210.00 of $12,500.00 raised

Brentwood College School has now established a tradition of service trips to expose students to the wider global community and issues that people face.

The focus on service allows them to appreciate the lives they lead and hopefully, imprint the idea of philanthropy from a young age. Please help us provide the opportunity to build a home for a single mother who is impacted by climate change and cannot afford to provide adequate housing for her children. In March 2017, a Brentwood group was the first to break ground on the first home of 10. All students were moved as they worked alongside the families, including young children. It was a highlight of the trip and one that this year’s group wants to repeat.

The ongoing connection to the local people provides a meaningful experience but we cannot do this without your help!

Women's Cooperative Home Building Projects

Nicaragua has one of the highest housing deficits in Central America with over 78% of the population living in inadequate homes or are homeless. Lack of adequate housing causes families to live with a constant burden of uncertainty, stress and fear. Safe and decent shelter provides an opportunity for families to break generational cycles of poverty and build better, healthier, and more stable lives.

Speroway is raising funds to support the relocation and safe and adequate housing for ten low-income families. Through your gift you will be helping to support these ten women and their children who are apart of the Women's Faith and Hope Cooperative in the community of Jiquilillo.

Nicaragua Jiquilillo Projects

Speroway works in the rural Nicaraguan communities of Jiquilillo, Los Zorros, Padre Ramos and the community of El Limonal near Chinandega. Activities and initiatives are pursued in collaboration with these communities, and in partnership with other participating organizations with a shared vision of alleviating poverty through improved education, accessible healthcare, and enhanced self-employment opportunities.
