Twenty Women Strong-Fran Raines

$375.00 of $1,000.00 raised
When my sister asked me if I ‘d like to join her in going to Nicaragua, to be part of the “Twenty Women Strong”, to help build a home for a single mom and her children, I was pretty excited. This has been a long time desire of mine to go abroad and help those less fortunate. As a dental hygienist, I had imagined I’d be offering dental related assistance, but this project has a special place in my heart. Having been a widow and single mom for part of my children’s life, I can’t even imagine what it would have been like not having a home or proper nourishment for my children. My husband and I often remind ourselves how fortunate we are and this project is a great opportunity for me to give back what I can. I am really looking forward to working with my sister, who shares the same passion, along with the other women, and witness the joy and hope in this family’s eyes as we build them a place they can call home. While we are there we will also be expanding our volunteering in other capacities to help other families in the community. I am looking forward to coming back and sharing the stories of these families and my experience and my hope is to get people around me involved in another project similar to this.

As a group we need to raise $20,000, which is the cost of building materials for one home. Of that I am responsible to raise a minimum of $1,000. I am covering the costs of the flight, the accommodations and the food personally. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated toward making this dream possible for this homeless mother and her children, and making this project a success. Any donation of $10 or more is eligible for a tax receipt.

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Fran

Women's Cooperative Home Building Projects

Nicaragua has one of the highest housing deficits in Central America with over 78% of the population living in inadequate homes or are homeless. Lack of adequate housing causes families to live with a constant burden of uncertainty, stress and fear. Safe and decent shelter provides an opportunity for families to break generational cycles of poverty and build better, healthier, and more stable lives.

Speroway is raising funds to support the relocation and safe and adequate housing for ten low-income families. Through your gift you will be helping to support these ten women and their children who are apart of the Women's Faith and Hope Cooperative in the community of Jiquilillo.
