Twenty Women Strong-Marissa

$1,000.00 of $1,000.00 raised
My father and mother were always heavily involved in their communities. For as long as I can remember they were major advocates, contributors and often leaders in their local Unicef group, Rotary chapter, Children's Aid Society and even creating communities that foster children's cultural education and connecting high school students to industry leaders.  Needless to say, I had big shoes to fill. The last on their bucket list was to travel and volunteer in communities far from their own. Sadly, neither of them were able to fulfill that dream as my mother passed away in 2008 and my father this year. I want to dedicate this trip to them and hopefully continue, as best I can, the life of service they started and pass on the torch eventually to my children as well.

In November 2017, a group of 20 like-minded women will be heading out to Jiquilillo, Nicaragua to help locals build a home for a mother and her children.  Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated and go directly towards the building supplies required for this project. The funding goal for the 20 women project is to raise $20,000.

With much appreciation,

Women's Cooperative Home Building Projects

Nicaragua has one of the highest housing deficits in Central America with over 78% of the population living in inadequate homes or are homeless. Lack of adequate housing causes families to live with a constant burden of uncertainty, stress and fear. Safe and decent shelter provides an opportunity for families to break generational cycles of poverty and build better, healthier, and more stable lives.

Speroway is raising funds to support the relocation and safe and adequate housing for ten low-income families. Through your gift you will be helping to support these ten women and their children who are apart of the Women's Faith and Hope Cooperative in the community of Jiquilillo.

Activities and initiatives are pursued in collaboration with these communities, and in partnership with other participating organizations with a shared vision of alleviating poverty through improved education, accessible healthcare, and enhanced self-employment opportunities.
