Souls on Fire Tour: Jenelle Brewer

$50 of $1,000 raised
My name is Jenelle and I will be participating in the Souls on Fire Tour in Nicaragua November 11-22 2018 with my two teenagers Draigan and Chris.  I have always been passionate about helping others and while I usually focus on the needs of the community I live in, I have decided to broaden my approach. My kids went on a Mexico Mission with their school in Grade 9, I was unable to attend with them and regret it. This trip will give me the opportunity to experience building a house for a deserving family with them. For both my kids, it was a life changing experience and they are excited to serve through another build project this fall.
I believe that providing a family a home in a country where resources are scarce assists in providing economic stability for a family. This security provides not only safety through a roof over their head but addresses a challenging aspect of people that experience poverty, overcrowding in homes. This a great opportunity to work as team for a common goal and build new relationships. At times, I get caught up in my daily routine, I forget to be grateful for many the amenities we have as Canadians.
Looking forward to this trip with my kids to grow together as a family and foster a trait in them that is most important to me which is extending a hand to help another person.

Women's Cooperative Home Building Projects

Nicaragua has one of the highest housing deficits in Central America with over 78% of the population living in inadequate homes or are homeless. Lack of adequate housing causes families to live with a constant burden of uncertainty, stress and fear. Safe and decent shelter provides an opportunity for families to break generational cycles of poverty and build better, healthier, and more stable lives.

Speroway is raising funds to support the relocation and safe and adequate housing for ten low-income families. Through your gift you will be helping to support these ten women and their children who are apart of the Women's Faith and Hope Cooperative in the community of Jiquilillo.

Speroway works in the rural Nicaraguan communities of Jiquilillo, Los Zorros, Padre Ramos and the community of El Limonal near Chinandega. Activities and initiatives are pursued in collaboration with these communities, and in partnership with other participating organizations with a shared vision of alleviating poverty through improved education, accessible healthcare, and enhanced self-employment opportunities.
