Speroway in Nicaragua
Speroway is empowering families in Jiquilillo, Nicaragua through nutrition, education, healthcare, and safe housing—helping break the cycle of poverty and create new opportunities for the future.
In partnership with the local community, Speroway provides family food baskets and supports school feeding programs to ensure children receive the nourishment they need to learn and grow. We also operate English and computer programs, giving students practical skills that open doors to future employment in a tourism-based economy. Through our medical clinic and outreach programs, families receive essential healthcare, maternal care, and ongoing education. In addition, Speroway works to address unsafe living conditions by helping build stable, earthquake-resistant homes for vulnerable families—offering not just shelter, but dignity, security, and hope.
Our Work in Nicaragua
Family Food Basket Program
Speroway works alongside the Jiquilillo community to identify families most in need of nutritional support. Each family food basket is filled with essential, nutritious staples and delivered directly to homes. These visits also allow us to identify additional needs and provide further support for vulnerable families. To donate, click here.
School & Student Nutrition Support
Speroway supports school-based feeding programs to ensure children have the energy they need to focus, learn, and thrive in the classroom. In Jiquilillo, we also provide nutritional snacks for ESL and computer students who often arrive hungry and thirsty after a full day of school, supplementing the local lunch program with added protein and nutrients.
English as a Second Language (ESL) — Vocational Education
Known locally as “a pathway to a career,” Speroway’s English program offers comprehensive instruction to students ages five and older. Through teacher-led lessons, student projects, and conversational opportunities with English-speaking volunteers, students gain confidence, independence, and practical language skills that increase their future employment prospects in Nicaragua’s tourism-driven economy.
Computer Learning Program
Speroway operates a computer education program that teaches essential digital skills, including how to use common workplace applications, solve basic computer issues, and install software. These skills equip students with the tools needed to pursue higher education and employment opportunities in an increasingly digital world. To learn more or donate, click here.

Staffed by local Nicaraguan nurses, Speroway’s clinic provides medical support, maternal care, vaccinations, and health education to families in Jiquilillo and surrounding communities, reaching approximately 5,000 people. These services improve overall health, reduce preventable illness, and help families build a more stable future. To learn more or donate, click here.
Safe Housing & Home Building Projects
With Nicaragua facing one of the highest housing deficits in Central America, Speroway is working to provide safe and adequate housing for vulnerable families. Homes are built with strong foundations, metal roofs, secure doors and windows, interior walls, and eco-friendly latrines, making them more resilient to earthquakes and offering families dignity, safety, and long-term stability.
