Emergency: Floods create Food Crisis for families in Malawi

As you may be aware, Malawi experienced severe flooding in early 2023, which has had a devastating impact on the country.

The floods have destroyed crops and homes, leaving many people without access to food, clean water, and shelter. We believe in the importance of responding to the needs of those who are suffering, and we have begun the work on the ground in Malawi to provide aid and support to those who have been impacted by the floods.

But, we need your help in order to continue our work with local churches and our partners to provide emergency food assistance to those who have lost their crops and livelihoods. Your gift will help us reach thousands of people in need, providing them with essential supplies to help them survive in the aftermath of this disaster.

Over 2 million people have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi, with 1.6 million facing severe food insecurity, over 650,000 people displaced and more than 600 deaths. The situation has now become dire. 180,000 hectares of land has been destroyed, leaving the agriculture sector in shambles - with more than 2.3 million people losing their crops and livestock.

The need for food assistance remains urgent and is likely to increase in the coming months. Many families have lost their entire harvest, and the next planting season is still several months away. Without adequate food assistance, these families will face severe hunger and malnutrition.

We need your help to procure nutritious food for this emergency.

$35 will provide bag of nutritious cereal.

$65 will provide a home food package for a family.

$350 will provide enough cereal for a meal for 10 communities.

Every $3,500 enables us to procure and distribute enough food for 10 communities for a month.

Your support is vital during this emergency campaign!

Pictured here is a local mother Joyce, participating in one of our ten community feeding programs that help the many hungry children in her community. In this community we are distributing nutritious cereal fortified with added vitamins.

Joyce is helping to prepare healthy cereal for hungry children like her daughter Mimi. The program provides a lifeline for many who have been left malnourished from the disaster.

Joyce and her daughter are just one example of the thousands of families in need in Malawi. We have started working on the ground to provide assistance to those affected by the floods, including food assistance to those who have lost their crops and livelihoods but we need your support to continue this work. These vital meals enriched with vitamins and supplements help replenish what the body needs, helping to keep children from the devastating impacts of malnutrition.
